The skilled trades are the foundation of our society. It is essential that the community recognizes the contributions of the workers that have built this country. This foundation will provide grants which focus on awareness, education, and advocacy. The Foundation supports curriculum and supplies that provide hands on experiences preparing students for career opportunities in the skilled trades. Our future depends upon the men and women who dedicate themselves to their trade and take pride in their craft. To that end, the Foundation is committed to promoting and protecting the skilled trades as a desirable career opportunity.
The Foundation for the Trades is dedicated to expanding access to industrial arts and technology programs in Iowa schools. With only 48% of schools in the state currently offering these critical programs, the Foundation aims to raise awareness, increase educational opportunities, and provide the necessary resources to strengthen Industrial/Technology curriculums.
If your school is interested in participating, grant applications will open in April 2025, with a deadline of September 1, 2025.
Last April, 34 school districts, representing 81 junior and senior high schools, were invited to apply. This year, we anticipate even greater participation and would love for your school to get involved.
The grant helps support industrial arts and technology programs by providing funding for essential consumables and equipment, ensuring these programs have the resources they need to succeed.
The Foundation for the Trades Board are excited to announce the inaugural grant awards. The board wrote a resolution to gift $7,000 to schools in a seven-county area where their industrial art/tech programs need consumables and equipment.
The application was based on curriculum or type of class, budget, consumables, equipment and potential new programs. Schools in a seven-county area, 34 school districts, totaling 81 junior and senior high schools were invited to submit their grant applications to the Foundation for the Trades in April 2024.
Grant submissions were due September 1, 2024.
Thank you to every School Jr/Sr who participated in the Foundation For The Trades Grant Application process 2024.
